Project Description

“We are all unique in our offer, but together we are stronger”
– Debbie Kermode (Artistic Director of mac birmingham) at The East Meets West Symposium 2017

East Meets West is an exciting new network of Midlands-based theatre-makers, facilitated by Little Earthquake.

Mobilising artists, companies, producers, programmers and venues from across the entire region, the overall aim of East Meets West is to reduce barriers and encourage collaboration between and within the East and West Midlands, and cement the foundations of a more proactive, democratic and supportive community.

The East Meets West Symposium 2017 was a two-day event and celebration to officially launch the East Meets West network. Generously supported by Arts Council England, mac birmingham and Derby Theatre, the symposium consisted of panel discussions, group breakout sessions, meet-and-greet opportunities, and local home-grown performances.

Day 1 of the symposium took place in the West Midlands at mac birmingham, before heading East for Day 2 at Derby Theatre.

THE 1%
PLEDGES

Throughout The East Meets West Symposium 2017, Little Earthquake invited delegates to make a small personal pledge to do something that would improve the way we all work together and, ultimately, increase the quality of what we are doing for audiences in the region.

Using a principle called “The Aggregation of Marginal Gains”, the delegates were all asked to improve something by just 1%. Why only 1%? Find out here.
